Campus hiring

The credentials available can tell you who is doing well in school. They cannot tell you who will thrive at your firm.

Similar on paper. Different in practice.

These two candidates are indistinguishable on paper, and with on-cycle recruiting running two years ahead of the desk, no further information is coming. Their resumes give you little reason to choose between them. But they approach their work, and respond to different working environments, in fundamentally different ways.

Candidate A

Target university · Class of 2029

Target university · Class of 2029

  • Sophomore · no banking internship on record yet
  • B.A., Economics · 3.9 GPA
  • Investment banking club, president
  • Corporate finance internship at a Fortune 500

What you can’t see: one is highly ambitious and unconventional, the other more measured and structured in their approach to work.

Every page I turn goes to the associate, then the VP, then the MD before it leaves the building. By the time the book goes out I can’t find a slide of mine in it. Five months and I still haven’t been on a client call. I’ve been on mute for two. I don’t think I’m being punished. This is just how they run the group, and two other people in my class have said the same thing. But I’m getting slower instead of faster and I can’t tell if that’s the training working or the opposite. Nobody mentioned any of this during the summer. Is this a normal year 1 or did I pick wrong?

Obligatory: yes, I know it’s six months and this forum will tell me it’s the honeymoon.

Weekly check-in with my associate, and she marks up my pages with reasons instead of just fixing them. I summered somewhere you got thrown onto a live deal and figured it out, and I spent ten weeks panicking.

Slower start here, probably. But I can feel the craft accumulating, which I could not say in August. Culture is most of the job and nobody tells you that going in.

Staffed my second week, told to take first pass on the model. No precedent deck, no old model to work from, nobody to walk me through what the schedules were for. Asked my assigned mentor a question eight days ago, still nothing.

Sent the model up and heard back nothing at all, which I’m told means it was fine. I don’t know if it was fine. I don’t know if anything I’ve done in three months has been fine.

I summered here and it was structured and supervised and bore no resemblance to this. People call it autonomy. I’m at 95 hours a week and I’ve learned almost nothing.

Staffed on a $400M sell-side my first week and given the operating model to own. Associate showed me what good looked like once and then let me get there myself.

Every time I’ve been stuck, help has been there inside the hour. It’s not that nobody’s watching, it’s that nobody’s hovering. Steep, mildly terrifying, exactly what I wanted.

Fully expect the replies telling me to check back at month nine. Friends in more structured groups describe a very different first year and I don’t envy it.

Resumes and transcripts told MDs these candidates were identical. They weren’t.

How campus hiring works

  1. The firm-specific model

Suited trains a model on your firm’s performance and retention data, learning which behavioral traits and cognitive skills drive performance at your firm specifically. Models are validated for accuracy before they score a single candidate, and independently audited for adverse impact before they go live and annually thereafter.

  2. Candidates are assessed

Candidates take the Suited behavioral and cognitive assessments one time as part of their campus recruiting process. Invite candidates who apply to your firm to connect and draw from Suited’s pre-screened pool. Every candidate is evaluated against the firm’s own model. Underlying detail accompanies each score so you can understand why the model rated the candidate the way it did.

  3. Hiring decisions built on evidence

Build your superday slate with candidates the firm’s own model identifies as top matches. Get offers in the hands of those most likely to thrive. Suited’s AI interprets data. Your human judgment decides what to do with it.

Lateral hiring

Every junior banker you want started as someone else’s summer. We’ve known them the whole time.

Your lateral pipeline starts long before a banker begins looking.

More than 25,000 students join Suited each year, establishing a relationship that can continue as their careers develop. Through continued engagement, we get a deeper understanding of their experience and career priorities. We use that intelligence to surface the right opportunities for them, unlocking a higher level of engagement.

How lateral hiring works

  1. Complete market visibility

    See every qualified banker instantly.

Suited analyzes your role requirements against banker profiles across the industry and automatically surfaces the matches. You gain complete visibility into qualified passive talent across the entire market, not just the few active job-seekers sitting on agency lists.

  2. You make targeted selections

    Choose who is worth meeting.

Review full public profiles showing verified experience, deal history, and career trajectory. You select exactly who you want to approach in a targeted outreach rather than a spray and pray approach.

  3. Suited handles the outreach

    High-signal invitations that get opened.

Headhunters send vague emails that get deleted. Suited delivers warm, role-specific invitations directly on behalf of your internal recruiting team. Because the outreach carries confirmed firm interest, passive talent pays attention.

Built for fairness, privacy, and security. Independently verified.

A leading AI governance and risk management firm has reviewed and validated Suited’s model design, testing, and governance framework. Each firm-specific model undergoes its own adverse-impact audit before deployment and annually thereafter. These safeguards are part of a broader compliance program aligned with applicable regulatory and industry standards for responsible AI, adverse impact, data privacy, and information security.

FAQs

01Does Suited replace our recruiting team or search firms?

No. Suited gives your recruiting team better intelligence and tools. For campus hiring, it adds standardized behavioral and cognitive evidence to your existing evaluation process. For lateral hiring, it expands your view beyond bankers already in motion and supports targeted outreach. Your recruiters and bankers remain responsible for every hiring decision, while your firm decides how Suited affects its use of external search firms.

02How is a firm-specific behavioral model developed?

Suited combines structured assessment data from your bankers with your firm’s performance and retention data to identify the job-related behavioral competencies associated with thriving in your environment. All data collected is anonymized. The model is validated before it is used and revalidated as additional outcome data becomes available. Each production model also undergoes adverse-impact testing and independent third-party review before deployment.

03What if we do not have enough data for a firm-specific behavioral model?

Your firm can begin with Suited’s validated cognitive skills assessment while we determine whether sufficient data is available to develop a custom behavioral model. The behavioral model can be introduced later once the necessary data has been collected and validated.

04Is Suited an ATS or a replacement for our ATS?

No. Suited works alongside your existing ATS and recruiting processes. It adds behavioral and cognitive insights to the information your team already considers, while your firm continues to manage applications, interviews, and hiring decisions through its established systems and workflows.

05What happens if a candidate does not take the assessment?

That is a rare circumstance, but ultimately you control how to implement Suited in your process. Suited provides additional information about candidates who complete the assessment; it does not automatically exclude candidates who do not. Your firm can choose to continue evaluating nonparticipants through its existing process using resumes, transcripts, interviews, and any other information it ordinarily considers.

06Does Suited make or automate hiring decisions?

No. Suited provides additional data to inform your firm’s evaluation process. It does not automatically accept or reject candidates, and no Suited result replaces the judgment of your recruiters, bankers, or hiring committees. Your team remains responsible for every decision.

07How does Suited address fairness and adverse impact?

Suited’s assessments are developed using established industrial-organizational psychology standards and validated for their intended use. Every production model is tested for adverse impact before deployment and annually thereafter, with independent third-party audits at the model level. Suited’s broader model design, testing, and governance framework has also been independently audited.

08How long does implementation take?

Timing depends on the services your firm selects and the availability of the necessary data. A cognitive-only deployment can generally move more quickly because it does not require development of a firm-specific behavioral model. A custom behavioral deployment includes data collection, model development, validation, adverse-impact testing, and independent audit. Following an initial data review, Suited will provide a firm-specific implementation plan and timeline.

09How is Suited’s lateral solution different from traditional search?

Traditional search generally starts with a resume and a banker who is already willing to consider a move. Suited combines verified experience, deal history, and career priorities with proprietary behavioral and cognitive insights. We use that multidimensional intelligence to identify bankers aligned with your specific needs, including those who have not begun an active search. Your team reviews their public bios and selects whom to approach; Suited then delivers a warm invitation backed by confirmed interest, on behalf of your internal recruiting team.

Matt Spencer
I started Suited so I could look at a stack of 4,000 analyst resumes and answer the question ‘who will thrive here?’ directly with data. People told us that was a pipe dream. Almost a decade later, the candidates our models identify are 3.0x more likely to be hired, 2.1x more likely to become high performers, and 53% less likely to leave in their first two years.
